The Leaders of Tomorrow-St. George Youth City Council
Today is November 20, 2008

The St. George Youth City Council was established in 1990 to provide youth with an active role in addressing youth issues and to educate them about local government. During the year, these members work to let their peers know about existing opportunities and listen to suggestions on what the City can do to improve its youth oriented efforts.

Membership in the youth city council is FREE of registration charges and is open to youth who are in the boundaries to attend Pine View, Dixie, or Snow Canyon Middle or High Schools. Applications are accepted in January and and at times when there is a vacancy. Membership is limited to 11 members. Members serve for a one year period beginning in January and ending the following January. Members may reapply to participate the following year. Applicants must be in the 8th through 12th grades.

Youth City Council mirrors the city government with the offices of Mayor, City Manager, Attorney, Council Member (5), Recorder, Treasurer, and Communications Director. Members commit to attending all meetings and projects.

Awards and recognition are available to members of the Youth City Council who participate actively. Members of Youth City Council have the opportunity to perform many hours of community service that fulfill the requirements of National Honor Society and other clubs and organizations. It also offers members a unique item that they can add to scholarship applications, resumes and their Sterling Scholar application.

During the year, members of the Youth City Council hold meetings each Wednesday at 5:00pm and other meetings as necessary to complete their projects. They meet with youth organizations and city officials to address youth issues.
